Comspeco.net is currently recruiting Oak Island businesses and residences to participate in a communitywide wireless Internet project. Qualifying candidates will receive free high-speed Internet for 6-12 months for participating in the study. Comspeco.net, A division of Communication Specialists Company of Wilmington has been establishing wireless Internet points of presence in Wilmington, Carolina, Topsail and Wrightsville Beaches since 1999. “We’re looking for six to twelve homes and/or businesses in Oak Island that fit a very specific set of criteria to participate in our trial,” Comspeco.net Account Manager Mary Jennette explains. “Once selected, these participants will receive high-speed Internet with absolutely no investment by the home owner or business for up to a year or maybe even longer.” Candidates must (1) Own their residence or business property and it should be on or near the beach, and (2) Have AT&T (formerly Bell South Telephone) service at or available to the property. “Since this is a wireless Internet project, we’re especially interested in taller homes and businesses without significant tree coverage on the immediate grounds… that are near more densely populated, tourist-attracting areas of the island,” Jennette said. Anyone interested should contact Communication Specialists between 9 am and 5 pm Monday through Friday at 910-791-9773. Communication Specialists Company is a locally-owned company providing mission-critical communication to Southeastern North Carolina since 1954.
